Hanabusa Aido is a young, Noble Class vampire, nicknamed “Idol” by the Day Class girls when he was in school. The youngest child and only son of the respected Aido family, Hanabusa can act childish and arrogant at times but he has a good and loyal heart. A prodigy even among vampires, he is highly intelligent and took part in creating the latest generation of blood tablets before he was even 17. He is very close to his cousin Akatsuki Kain, who is more like a big brother to him and to his cousin Ruka, although they like to pick on one another. He is extremely loyal to Kaname Kuran and idolizes the pureblood to the point of appearing to almost have a crush on him.

Expressive, dramatic and opinionated, Hanabusa will speak up if he feels strongly about something – often without thinking things through, which sometimes gets him into hot water. Although his impulsiveness often lands both he and his cousin Kain in trouble, he is also steadfastly loyal and protective of those he cares about. He can be self-centered and behaves like a playboy around the Day Class girls, but he later fights seriously to protect them when they are in danger. As a child, Hanabusa was somewhat cruel to a young Kaname who wanted to be friends, because he was drawn to Kaname and jealous of him all at the same time. In later years that dynamic flipped completely and he would do anything for the pureblood, including keeping his secrets and maintaining a stalker stash of hidden photos and a collection of things that Kaname has broken. Formerly rather jealous of Kaname’s attention towards Yuki before her true identity was revealed, Hanabusa is now serving as Yuki’s tutor and companion/babysitter. He has a tendency to speak without thinking and do thoughtless things, but he has matured much in recent times.
